![]() ![]() I have a windows xp sp2 bootable disk from my other computer if I need to re-install windows xp. This computer was given to me from a friend with no disks about 2 and a half years ago. I went into the recovery console and ran chkdsk /r had it fix any problems it found. It will just start up again in a couple minutes with another svchost.exe. ![]() Even after I close the svchost.exe file that is causing the memory leak. Thanks!! Now, i have found out the services that svchost.exe is linked to and I even tried stopping them one by one as the memory leak was going on and it would not really effect it enough for me to know that that one service was the problem. I have one from 2005 "MSV C++ 2005 REDISTRIBUTABLE" then six from 2008 ONE IS ATL update. So, I'll list the ones i have installed just so you know. Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update So i had to uninstall that version then re-install the original "2005 redistributable package" i know you are allowed to have multiple versions of visual c++ and run time libraries on your computer because the files are used to run different programs. Apparently Microsoft released a bad update to one of there visual C++ "2005 redistributable package" "SP1" I figured that is what caused the memory leak. I deleted them all but that didn't help the memory leak. A couple things came back from cookies and invalid registry entries to a few trojans. I thought it was a virus at first so I did a couple different virus, malware, and adware scans. I think it is the ntl.dll file it keeps leaping allocated memory. ![]() I used "Sys internals Process explorer" to narrow down what is causing all the ruckus. I can still use my computer and browse on the web, but some stuff is limited. Well, I can start them manually if i have to. That in turn disables a lot of services windows uses to run. Then I have to close it in task manager to save the processor and harddrive from spinning too loud. My svchost file will either just start increasing in RAM or the Processor usage will keep going up until it is at 100 percent. Every time i start windows then open a browser and start looking around for a little bit. I am pretty sure I have a memory leak in the svchost.exe file. I HAVE ONE FLASH DRIVE USB CONNECTED 2 GIGS Running "Windows XP PROFESSIONAL 2002 SP 3" X86ĭELL DIMENSION DV051 WITH ABOUT 2 GIGS OF RAM ![]()
